Blossoms
“Blossoms” is a continuation of the Sacred Waters series which will ultimately become a children’s book. In this piece, I study my own family, drawing from the rich collection my cousin the family historian collected. These images are of the women on my mother’s side of the family, dating back to antebellum era. I have placed the older generations of women at the roots of this tree who nourish the recent generations that are blossoming.
This piece has ignited a deeper exploration of family history through image making, which is seen in several of the works I am currently developing.
“Blossoms” is currently on view at the BronxArtSpace in Hunts Point, in a group show entitled, “Giving Light:Ori9ens,” though June 29th. This show is dedicated to shedding light on Black Maternal health rates and access to healing and advocacy work. It is a celebration on Mothers.
