Memory

A children’s book in the making for the last two years, I finally realized my vision at the end of 2025.

This piece is a children’s book I developed during my residency at the Andrew Freedman Home in the Bronx. After developing several small paintings in response to a vision of an ancestor while singing lullabies to my child, I became aware that I was developing a series of images that were illustrations of a story. Once I joined the residency at Andrew Freedman Home (AFH), I discovered a printing company called the Uptown Fine Art Printshop (UFAP)! In collaboration with UFAP, over several iterations and months of consultation, we were able to realize this edition of my first children’s book “Memory.” Memory is my narrative of a personal and cultural history, exploring the African-American strength and struggles, and the legacy I will leave behind to the next generation. This work is important to me especially in the context of cultural erasure and undermining access to free and public information, especially for children.
